Ethan Christensen

Student Representative

Ethan is a Sophomore at East High School and on his 2nd year on the Duluth East Daredevils. He is the safety captain and build captain.

 

Timothy Velner

Board Member

Tim Velner graduated from UMD with degrees in Biology, Chemistry, and teaching science 5-12. Tim has taught science at all levels K-12 in Duluth Public Schools for 30 years. He served as science curriculum specialist, and sat on all design committees as the district rebuilt its school. At East, Tim has taught Biology, Physical Science and Anatomy Physiology. Tim joined the Daredevils (known as the Penguins at that time) in 2008 and served as coach through 2020.


Kelly Olsen

Former Mentor & Local Business Owner

Kelly is a local business owner who designs and builds attachments for skid steer loaders. His interest in machine design was sparked as a mentor for the Daredevils robotics team. He loves to travel and explore new places, especially anywhere near the ocean. He spends summers in Duluth and winters in Key West Florida where he enjoys listening to live music, biking, and boating.

 

Karen Johnson

Former Parent

Karen Johnson has been a part of FIRST Robotics/ Duluth East Daredevils for the past 10 years as a parent and volunteer for the Double DECC’er Robotics Competition. She has been working at a local hospital as an RN (Registered Nurse) for over 30 years. Karen enjoys hiking with her dog, camping, kayaking, and traveling.

Tom Walden

Jacobs Technologies

Tom Walden is a System Support Representative with experience in computer systems, networking, and electronic maintenance. He retired from the 148th Fighter Wing, MN Air National Guard with 30 years of service and is a contractor for Jacobs Technologies. He has a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology from Thomas Edison State University and an Associate of Science in Electronic Technology from the Community College of the Air Force. Tom is certified in CompTIA Security + and A+. He is old, but still enjoys video games, movies, and hunting.
